In the context of rising global food insecurity, the UN International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) plays a unique role supporting food-insecure countries. As an international financial institution, IFAD funds agricultural development projects to increase food production in low- and middle-income countries, including those experiencing conflict. IFAD President Alvaro Lario returns to CSIS to discuss IFAD’s progress during the first term of his presidency, including IFAD’s role combatting the global food crisis, and IFAD’s success employing innovative financing models to fund its activities worldwide.

How is IFAD working to address challenges outlined in the 2023 State of Food Insecurity and Nutrition (SOFI) report? What are IFAD’s plans for engagement in COP28? And what is IFAD’s vision for its upcoming replenishment cycle, in the context of declining funding for development?

Please join the CSIS Global Food Security Program on Thursday, July 13 at 9:30am EST as we welcome IFAD President Alvaro Lario back to CSIS. President Lario will be joined by U.S. Representative Tracey Mann (R-KS), who will provide an overview on the role of United States in the fight against global food insecurity.

This event is made possible through the generous support of the United Nations International Fund for Agricultural Development.
