INSURED – Insurance for Rural Resilience and Economic Development

IFAD’s INSURED programme (Insurance for Rural Resilience and Economic Development) works to build the resilience of small-scale producers on the front line of the climate crisis. It aims to increase their ability to manage climate risks and to strengthen their livelihoods.

INSURED supports the roll-out of insurance schemes linked to agricultural development and financial inclusion and provides tailored training and expertise. It is a demand-driven programme that works through the IFAD portfolio and cooperates with governments, development partners and the private sector. It makes the case for insurance to de-risk agricultural value chains and stabilize rural economies.

Since work started in 2018, INSURED has been active in 13 core countries.

The Insurance Toolkit shares practical guidance for project designers and implementers. How to carry out a rapid diagnostic for agricultural and climate risk insurance is a popular first step.

INSURED is a US$6 million programme funded by Sida and implemented by the multi-donor Platform for Agricultural Risk Management (PARM).
