Climate change impacts on agrifood systems are pervasive. Increasing weather and climate extreme events have exposed millions to acute food and water insecurity, eroding past human development gains and hindering current efforts to meet Sustainable Development Goals.

Reporting on adaptation actions is woefully deficient – besides showing current progress on adaptation, adaptation tracking would also support efforts to mobilize adequate funding. The lack of goals, targets and metrics are an obstacle to ramping up adaptation action.

As global heating accelerates, adaptation actions are urgently needed to reduce and respond to the increasing impacts of climate change, which are felt the hardest by the most vulnerable.

CGIAR work in this space provides some concrete examples on how adaptation can be tracked, though more work needed, particularly to link adaptation action with climate risk reduction.
