India Government Allocates $5 Billion for Agriculture in Budget 2013-14; Support Continues for Rice Cultivation Shift, Food Security Bill

Black Sea Grain (Feb. 28, 2013) | The Indian government has allocated Rs. 27,049 crore (about $5 billion) for the agriculture sector in the Union Budget 2013-14. Out of the total agriculture budget, Rs. 3,415 crore (about $633 million) has been earmarked for agricultural research, over 17 times the Rs. 200 crore (about $39 million) allocated in the previous year.
