MSN News (Dec. 16, 2011) | Notwithstanding large areas under corn (maize), the productivity of the key commercial crop is low in India as compared to other countries, Parliament was informed today.
India ranks 4th in the world in terms of area under corn production at 8.17 million hectares, Minister of State for Agriculture Harish Rawat said in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha. USA, China and Brazil have more areas under corn than India.
