Taiwan: Rain-caused agricultural losses reach over NT$500 million

Taiwan News (Nov. 22, 2011) | Days of non-stop heavy rain over the past two weeks have caused agricultural losses that had amounted to NT$572 million (US$18.88 million) as of 9 a.m. Tuesday, according to statistics released by the Council of Agriculture (COA) that day. Of 18,657 hectares of farmland around the island, 28 percent was damaged, representing zero harvest for 5,235 hectares. Farmers growing red beans and rice suffered the heaviest losses.
