SmartPlanet (May 17, 2011) | Scientists with the U.S. Department of Agriculture have developed an optical scanning system to detect contaminants and defects on produce in warehouses across the country. Biophysicist Moon Kim and other researchers published preliminary findings in 2008 and recently received a patent on the updated design.
