In 1994 the National Agricultural Research Strategy Plan for Ghana identified yam as a priority crop for research and development and particularly identified the need to reduce losses which were estimated at some 20% of production. In response,
this project sought to examine the yam marketing systems within Ghana, determine the nature, causes and implications of losses and attempt to formulate and test appropriate technologies or protocols to reduce them.
