This book provides summaries and analyses of key works and issues related to developments in research on the biology and ecology of planthoppers and provides details on management approaches. It has 19 chapters: of these, 17 are from the papers presented at the International Conference on Planthoppers – new threats to the sustainability of intensive rice production systems in Asia held at the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), Los BaƱos, Philippines, in June 2008. The aim of this book is to help shift paradigms in planthopper management and chart new sustainable approaches that will reduce the vulnerability of farmers’ rice fields to hopper burn, virus infections, and economic losses.
