This presentation reviews a basic primer on index insurance, including what it is and its advantages and challenges, before getting more in depth into the challenges to research posed for index insurance. The presentation then goes on to describe designing index insurance schemes as well as the assumptions made and the implications for research design around index insurance. Finally the case study of the Pisco Valley, Peru is presented.
