India: Nashik onion markets reopen with prices high

Fresh Plaza (Apr. 4, 2012) | The auctions of onions at the Lasalgaon APMC ( Agriculture Produce Market Committee) in Nashik district, which were closed from March 28 as traders were completing their annual accounts for the financial year 2011-12, reopened on Tuesday with a 10.58% rise in the prices of onions. The average wholesale prices are expected to touch Rs 550 ($10 US) in the next two weeks due to end of the late Kharif harvest and low volumes of the new summer crop.
